  • I will report that the SC20 sails incredibly well

    Greetings Haye,

USA 3 is in the water in MN. Due to a virtually non-existent spring and generally cold wet weather I was unable to get the SC20 launched until a week-and-a-half ago. I still have but a few hours on her.

I will report that she sails incredibly well under any combination of sail or just main alone. The helm is flawlessly balanced in any configuration. I have yet to mess with mast rake and presently see no reason to.

Because of skinny water off my dock I am relegated to paddling out a few yards to fully deploy the keel. I have found it best to find 6-8 feet of water (dependent on lake weeds), anchor, lower the keel and raise the main. Once the anchor is pulled the rest is pure pleasure.

With minor adjustments to hardware and rigging she slides through the water effortlessly. After being becalmed on the third sail, my son-in-law and I learned that she paddles nicely as well.

Wheels and axles have been attached to the shipping cradle which makes for a great beach dolly. I will send a couple of photos of this arrangement. She has already survived two thunderstorms with winds in excess of sixty MPH without any problems while on the dolly.

    Thanks and smooth sailing,

    Jerry C.
