This past Sunday we went from Pireaus to Voula (~10nm), a chic neighborhood here in Athens that has a small islet in front, accessible only by boat. After 3 hours of upwind work in almost no wind for most of the cruise, we arrived, lashed a line to another sailing boat (I forgot my anchor) and went for a swim. Since it was getting late, we didn't stay long otherwise the now stronger offshore breeze could die when approaching the sunset and we'd be left in the middle. After 2 hours of a downwind ride, with some small swells to aid us, we got to our homeport, with the wind, as predicted, giving its last breath.
It was a very nice day to forget all the bad times the country's economy - and people - is living and in stark contrast with the general mood. Then again, it's summer, high temperatures, nice breezes and with a sea like this, it's a shame to spend time complaining.
Cheers,
Roberto
